(Brighton, England - October 29, 2001) - Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), an innovator of high-speed wireless data/Internet communications, today launched at the TMA 2001 Conference and Exhibition in Brighton, UK, the Wi-LAN AWE 120-24 mkII, a version of the company’s new 12-megabit-per-second advanced wireless Ethernet bridge for use in the 2.4 GHz license-exempt frequency band with features specifically designed for the needs of European markets. Built with Wi-LAN’s patented Multi-code Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (MC-DSSS) technology, the AWE 120-24 mkII addresses the requirements of Wi-LAN’s European customers, who need a wireless data solution that simplifies network deployment in areas with higher building and population densities.
Wi-LAN's advanced wireless Ethernet bridges are ideal for broadband wireless access service providers looking to offer high-speed Internet access. The products can also be used by corporate enterprises to build and extend communications infrastructures.
Wi-LAN’s AWE 120-24 mkII includes three unique RF network management features that enable European service providers and enterprises to easily and successfully deploy high-speed wireless networks in the 2.4 GHz frequency band. First, the "User-Adjustable Power" allows the network operator to set the units to their ideal power setting during installation. Second, the "AutoPower Sensing" allows the unit to constantly monitor its power output. And third, the "Dynamic Power Control" allows the unit to automatically adjust the power output to accommodate changes in the environment. Working together, these three features allow the network operator to establish and guarantee service levels for the wireless network.
"The AWE 120-24 mkII, addresses the specific requirements of our European customers with one of the most cost-effective and versatile products in the marketplace," said Hatim Zaghloul, Chairman, CEO and President, Wi-LAN. "The AWE 120-24 mkII is an important addition to our AWE product line, and demonstrates Wi-LAN’s continued commitment to growth and evolution in global markets."
"We are excited about the AWE 120-24 mkII. The variable power output enables us to easily deploy focused coverage out to our customers," said Mr. Erik Jennes, CEO of Skybernet a network service provider customer of Wi-LAN. "Wi-LAN’s wireless products have allowed us to offer state of the art solutions to Europe’s largest enterprises in the Benelux region."
Wi-LAN’s AWE 120-24 mkII is available for order today. The AWE 120-24 mkII will be on display at the TMA 2001 Conference and Exhibition in Brighton, UK - October 29-31, 2001 in the Chronos Technology Ltd. (a valued Wi-LAN channel partner) booth # M205.
