Graham H. Smith Named Wi-LAN's New Chief Sales and Marketing Officer

November 15, 2000 Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), a leading innovator in the field of wireless data/Internet communications, today announced the appointment of Graham H. Smith as Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, effective Nov. 29, 2000. Mr. Smith brings to Wi-LAN 25 years of wireless industry experience, including 15 years at Motorola.
"Graham possesses a unique blend of management, sales and marketing, and international wireless industry experience," said Hatim Zaghloul, chairman and CEO, Wi-LAN. "His appointment as an executive officer completes the major steps toward a sales and marketing driven organization."

In his most recent position at Motorola, Mr. Smith was Vice President and Area Manager, Canada. He structured and developed company operations, initiated and introduced business and strategic marketing plans, and influenced the direction of the company resulting in major growth in the Canadian market. He grew the sales and business functions to more than $100 million. During his 15 years with the company, Mr. Smith also held significant sales positions in the U.S. and the U.K. resulting in major growth in International markets.
Following Motorola, Mr. Smith was Vice President of Sales and Marketing and was later named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Telular Canada Inc./Global Data Inc. until 1995.
Mr. Smith managed sales teams across Canada, the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and established international subsidiaries in both U.S. and Latin American markets to strategically support corporate operations.
Following his successes at Motorola and Telular Canada, Mr. Smith established a private consulting firm specializing in the wireless/smartcard industries where he helped clients to achieve financial and operational growth as well as licensing agreements. Since October, Mr. Smith has served as a senior advisor to Wi-LAN.
