Wi-LAN Commences Legal Action

11/17/2000

Calgary, Alberta
November 17, 2000

Wi-LAN Inc. (TSE:WIN), an innovator in the field of wireless data/Internet communications, today announced that it has commenced legal action in Canada against a company claiming to produce IEEE 802.11a devices. This is the first suit enforcing Wi-LAN's patent claims. In its June 5, 2000 press release, Wi-LAN stated its belief that any devices that implement the IEEE 802.11a standard in Canada infringe Wi-LAN's Canadian patent no. 2,064,975.

On advice from legal counsel, Wi-LAN is not commenting further on this matter at this time.
