Litigation Updates
Founded in 1992, Wi-LAN Inc. (WiLAN) was a recognized pioneer in the design, development and delivery of broadband wireless technologies. Today, WiLAN is a leading technology innovation and licensing company. Inventions in our portfolio are licensed by companies that manufacture or sell a wide range of communication and consumer electronics products including 3G cellular phones, Wi-Fi-enabled laptops, Wi-Fi/DSL routers, xDSL infrastructure equipment, WiMAX base stations, Bluetooth-enabled devices and digital televisions. Over 230 companies, including Cisco, Nokia, Panasonic, Samsung, RIM, Sharp, Sony and Toshiba, have licensed WiLAN technologies.
WiLAN analyzes the products of potential licensees to determine whether their products are infringing on patents in our portfolio of patented innovations. WiLAN will notify potential licensees of patent infringements and our interest to enter into a license agreement. The preferred outcome is always a fair license agreement achieved through negotiation. When all reasonable efforts undertaken by WiLAN to reach a negotiated agreement fail, litigation is an unfortunate but sometimes necessary step for WiLAN to be fairly compensated by those who profit from the use of our technology.
