Derek Nuhn joined Wi-LAN in October 2007 as Vice President, DSL Technologies, with responsibility for commercializing Wi-LAN’s DSL and telecommunications intellectual property. 

A proven business leader with a solid track record of more than 20 years in the semiconductor, telecommunications and licensing industries, Derek combines a strong technical background combined with 11+ years of management and executive management experience, most recently as Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Semiconductor Insights, the world’s premier technical IP consulting organization.  Under his direction, Semiconductor Insights was named 3 times as one of “Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies”, most recently in 2006.  As well, Derek was personally named one of the capital regions “Top 40 Under 40” executives in 2003.

Derek has extensive experience in technology and licensing issues across the globe, with a track record of success in business development and negotiation with Fortune Global 500 companies in the United States, Japan, Korea, Taiwan, and Europe.  An early industry leader in the understanding and application of intellectual property as a business asset in the technology industry, Derek has been a frequent speaker at numerous conferences worldwide, including LES, IPLS, ITRI, VLSI, LESI and the Wall Street Transcript.  Derek holds a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Saskatchewan, and was a graduate of the Queen’s Executive Program in 2000.
